About Thorsten Giersch
The 44-year-old was already a dedicated journalist as a teenager, when he founded the school and football club newspaper in his hometown and earned his first money at the local newspaper. While studying journalism, the football-loving Westphalian worked as a radio presenter and spent six years at n-tv - including as a stock market reporter in Frankfurt and as head of film for the business editorial team. In 2008 he moved to Handelsblatt, where he spent 13 years in senior positions, including editor-in-chief of the online edition and co-managing director of a publishing subsidiary. After a good two years as editor-in-chief of Markt und Mittelstand, the family man has been editor-in-chief of DUP Unternehmer-Medien, one of Germany's most widely read business magazines, since June 2024. There he founded the 'Mittelstand Reloaded' brand and, together with the team, developed it into the most widely read medium for topics relating to small and medium-sized businesses. This includes the Big Bang AI Festival, Europe's largest event for AI in the SME sector, which will take place for the first time in September 2020 with 6,000 guests. Thorsten hosts four podcasts and is also regarded as one of the leading business journalists on the topic of diversity, with a particular focus on gender equality for over ten years.
