About Nicole Langosch

"Teamwork is what keeps a ship running."

Despite growing up in the middle of Germany, Nicole Langosch fell in love with the sea at an early age and became the first female captain of a cruise ship in Germany. After graduating from high school in 2002, she went to Leer to study nautical science with the clear intention of going to sea. However, after her first experiences on cargo ships she realized that she wanted a more social environment, so she signed on as an officer on a cruise ship in the AIDA fleet. She quickly rose through the ranks, becoming the first female captain at the age of 34. “Fortunately, my colleagues were open to working with a woman in this role for the first time,” she says. There was a good team atmosphere – which is the most important thing at sea. “Teamwork is what keeps a ship running,” she explains. After more than eleven years at sea, Langosch has been back on land for just over two years – first as a marine superintendent in the Port of Hamburg, and since September 2022 as the Managing Director of Hurtigruten Expedition Technical Services GmbH. She has now returned to a more “normal” everyday life, both professionally and privately.
