About Prof. Dr. Axel Buether
Axel Buether is one of the world's leading colour experts, the most renowned colour researcher in the German-speaking world and the founder of modern evidence-based colour psychology, which is not conducted in a laboratory but on the basis of empirical research in the context of real-life situations. Since 2012 he has been a professor of Didactics of Visual Communication at the Department of Design and Art at the University of Wuppertal, where he does research in the border area between perception psychology and architecture. His doctorate at the University of Stuttgart, titled "Semiotics of the Visual Space", links the scientific fields of perception psychology and environmental design.
The Institute for Colour Psychology, which he heads, pursues an interdisciplinary, application-oriented and scientifically sound approach and bases its work on empirical research and practical cooperation. The applied research projects centre on spatial psychology, especially the effects of the environmental factors colour and light on human experience and behaviour, with a focus on well-being, health, personality and work motivation.
