Transforming identity - interior concepts from existing buildings.

On behalf of BLB NRW Cologne, SSP is planning the core refurbishment of the IG1 high-rise building and the new construction of the Nordhalle infrastructure building on the campus of the German Sport University in Cologne. The North Campus will undergo various refurbishment measures on other buildings over the next few years.

Students, lecturers and staff will be exposed to an ongoing transformation process and many challenges in the coming period. How can the goals of sustainability, building culture and technical progress be reconciled while at the same time increasing acceptance and identity?

Together with the artist collective freeters, the BLB Cologne and the German Sport University Cologne, SSP has developed a forward-looking idea for transforming existing buildings and their existing materials into a new learning environment. Bauen im Bestand becomes: “Building in and with existing buildings”.
