The event
The world of work is experiencing an identity crisis. It has been caught up in the home offices that employees were sent to at the beginning of the pandemic, which have proven to be just as good - if not better - support for focused work than the places in companies where employees were previously confined.
Office closures may be long over, but plans to return to the office are being delayed. Why? Because offices all too often fail to address the detailed needs of their users.
The design has lost touch with both the tasks of the employees and the infrastructure they need to fulfil these tasks well.
The form is not derived from the functional requirements. All too often, employers don't know why they have a workplace in the first place or what their employees are supposed to do there.
It's time for employers to better define the purpose of the workplace.
