A pioneering cooperation between SSP AG and freeters for the German Sport University Cologne
BAUSPIEL is a conversion project at the German Sport University Cologne, in which the freeters collective is working together with SSP from Bochum. The focus is on the emotional and social dimension of the architecture. Elements of an athletics hall are transformed into spatial objects and pieces of furniture for students. The collaboration shows how existing building fabric and old material can merge to create a new identity.
SSP, a leading planning office with around 220 employees, focuses on “building in existing structures” and pursues sustainable concepts under the GreytoGreen® label. In the current project at the German Sport University Cologne, movement as a central theme is made visible and tangible through the redesign.
The art collective freeters from Bonn uses the “Treasure Hunt” method to create working environments from found objects and old materials. They combine sustainability and art to create unique, tailor-made pieces that give rise to new spatial concepts.
